At the Don Whitley Scientific (DWS) Laboratory, we’re always working on a variety of exciting projects within microbiology. From Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) testing and antimicrobial efficacy studies to quality control of live biotherapeutic products, our team is passionate about delivering high-quality results that make a difference.
This Autumn the DWS Laboratory conducted agar dilution MICs for an international pharmaceutical company. Following CLSI guidelines and Good Laboratory Practice, MICs of a test compound were established against a panel of bacterial strains representing the human gut microbiota, including both facultative and obligate anaerobes. For the selected obligate anaerobes, a reliable and stringent anaerobic environment was required, so the innovative Whitley A95 Workstation was used. One of our in-house microbiologists commented: “The work went extremely well, and it has been rewarding knowing that our work will contribute to pharmaceutical developments. Communication with our customer has been consistent and we have welcomed any amendments to the original protocol."
